The UN Security Council

There are 15 members of the UN Security Council, consisting of five veto-wielding permanent members (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) and 10 elected non-permanent members with two-year terms (Wikipedia).

While deciding what to do about passing the resolution on Libya, The vote was 10-0 with five countries abstaining including Russia and China, which have veto power in the council, along with India, Germany and Brazil (The Huffington Post). Yesterday Russia said that they regret abstaining on the resolution, (i believe) implying they wanted to use their veto power.

Russia aggravates me, I would like to believe that they have moved forward since the 50's BUT it's comments like this that just make me wonder......... *sigh* It's just aggravating.

The Kid from Michigan

Ok, so I'm helping my cook on the grill line a server comes to me and tells me that a customer is upset because we don't have strawberry ice cream. She tells me that I need to go and talk to them.

I walk up to the table and ask what I can do to help them. This 19yr'ish kid tells me that he is upset because we don't have any strawberry ice cream. I apologized to him and tell him that I can go get some vanilla and put some strawberries on it for him. I had a very large smile on my face. So the kid looks at me and points at the chocolate shake in front of him, tells me that he wants a free refill on the shake and he didn't really want the shake until his meal came. I again apologized and laughed as I told him that I couldn't give him a free shake because we didn't have strawberry ice cream and then picked up the shake, told him It would come out with his meal and then put it right back on the table because the food was just coming out. Again, with a very large smile on my face.

The next thing, the cooks made too many Pancake Puppies for that table so i took the extra four to the back and ate them. The 'kid' wanted me again at the table. I walked over and he has pulled apart one of the six (the other 5 were already eaten) and tells me that at the denny's he goes to in Michigan they don't come out with little burnt pieces. I laughed again and told him those were the blueberry's that we put in it. He said he didn't want to pay for it. I told him that I would take it off the bill and went to the computer terminal to discount his check ;) Quick calculations, 6 puppies in an order, all but 1 were ate, $1.99 for 6..... $1.99 divided by 6 approx= $0.35. Yes... I took $0.35 off his bill and handed it back to him. Smiling still.

He then went to the cash register and when he gave me his money he forcefully dropped a coin on the counter and then when I gave him his change back with a smile on my face....

Libyan Conflict

I'm not sure if you've followed the Conflict in Libya BUT if you have... Here are a few things to think about. Gaddafi is not a good leader. In fact he doesn't consider himself a president of the country only someone who the people follow. Without diving into the corrupt politics that are presently in Libya lets consider the politics that will be in 'new' Libya. The United States has only been in the country of Libya for a few years which was not enough time to find any potential successors to the Gaddafi Regime, excluding his family line. Leading from this the United States is not scrambling to find AND evaluate any possible new political leaders within the country. I'm almost certain that every country wants to have there hand in helping to succeed a political power in the richest country in Africa.

Here is the punch line. There is not a certain single figure that would be the leading this political uprising meaning no single sole successor. So what happens to the country if there is not a single political power. I'm not a fan of a leader shooting his own people but what is to come with a divided Libyan Nation and no leader? I also think the the western nations are going to do what is possible to put who they choose in office.

Calling off Work

Ok, so a server at work has a tendency to call off every 2.5 weeks. All in all she has probably called off for about 7 to 8 days. It is becoming a problem because the number of servers we have is dwindling and we are relying more heavily on individuals to hold their own. So with that said, it appears to me that she calls off work when her boyfriend is in town. The last time she had coumadin problems and was in the emergency room. The time before that she didn't call off but came to work saying that she was throwing up. Before that, her father was ill and in the hospital but she couldn't call us at work because her cell phone didn't have a signal. This lasted two days. Before that... I can't remember.

Short story is... She is a good server but keeps putting us/me in a bad spot because she doesn't show up for work. Then we have to wonder if we need to get the rest of the week covered or just that one day. It's affecting other co-workers and managers in negative ways. So tonight I pull her into the office. I tell her that she is a good server, that I always appreciate how she comes in a good mood and has a positive attitude most of the time... But we need her to be here. I told her I understand that there are things that are out of your control at times but we have to run our business and we need her here to do that. I gave her a "Memo for Record/ (disciplinary write up)" while explaining that this just states our official attendance policy for the company and at the bottom it states : 'On 2/25/11 you were scheduled for a 2pm to 10pm shift. You notified management at approximately 12 pm that you would not be working your shift"

The last thing that she said to me as she was signing this piece of paper is that "she (I) doesn't agree with this." and I asked her what she didn't agree with and her response was the part stating 'On 2/25/11 you were scheduled for a 2pm to 10pm shift. You notified management at approximately 12 pm that you would not be working your shift." and stating that she can get a statement from the person that admitted her to the Emergency Room. I just nodded my head and kept my mouth shut. But what I really wanted to say is

"a doctor admitting you to the hospital does not excuse you from work. It does not put a server in the building to take care of my guest. It only means that you did something other then stay at home and wallow in your own self pity. The difference to me between someone that goes to the doctor and calls in and someone that DOESN'T go to the doctor and calls in is nothing to me. Neither own of them showed up for work. The attendance policy doesn't state that it's ok if you bring in a doctors note. Is this Fing grade school? If you don't want to get into trouble because your sick then you need to follow the FMLA of 1993 guidelines because I am sick and tired of having to work and extra 2 hours a day because of your problems. And how can you disagree with a truthful statement... because you DIDN'T show up for your shift and YOU DIDN'T tell a manger before noon?"

I just don't get it sometimes, can anyone explain it to me?

2007 President Obama's Campaign

If I voted, I would have voted for Obama..... I know that politics is a tricky occupation and you can't always stick to your word , BUT I don't see (or haven't heard about) the President putting on any comfortable pairs of shoes and marching with any other these teachers....

Ready, Set... comment!

A thought for the local area

An Economic proposition.

The 2012 superbowl is in Indianapolis IN. Would you agree or disagree? If the colts lose and do not make it to the superbowl then the economic increase from tourist would be larger then if they make it to the superbowl. Think about it and let me know if there would be a difference.

Driving

Why do people in cars speed by you in a rush and then swerve in front of you only to get into the turn lane and end up waiting? Stupid people in cars should have their license revoked!!
